Cultural Interactions

The development of Santa Fe as an artist and tourist destination began with the 1913 "remodeling" of the portal on the Palace of the Governors, and the construction of the Museum of New Mexico Gallery in 1917. The Museum presented exhibitions, provided studio space for visiting artists, and a meeting space for the Santa Fe community. Museum programming promoted the importance of the visual arts and fostered interactions between cultural groups.
