Distinguished New Mexico Authors Share Our Times with Miss O’Keeffe (and Other Stories)

August 9th, 2017

(Santa Fe, NM) –   In September, the New Mexico History Museum is hosting Our Times with Miss O’Keeffe (and Other Stories) with three distinguished writers who describe their memorable moments with New Mexico’s most recognized artist.

Pulitzer Prize-winning author and artist N. Scott Momaday, will recall afternoons with Georgia O’Keeffe and read other poems inspired by landscapes of the Southwest. His poem Forms of the Earth at Abiquiu, recently published as a limited-edition broadside by the Press at the Palace of the Governors, features a hand-colored and highly imaginative portrait of O’Keeffe. The broadside will be available for purchase, with the proceeds benefiting The Buffalo Trust, Dr. Momaday’s foundation working to help indigenous children in need.

Carol Merrill served Georgia O’Keeffe as librarian, secretary, cook, nurse, companion, confidante, reader, and caregiver. Weekends with O’Keeffe is a book taken from her extensive journal account of their interactions. O’Keeffe, Days in a Life is a book of poetry about being with Miss O’Keeffe.

Margaret Wood was also a companion and caretaker to O’Keeffe for many years and is the author of A Painter’s Kitchen: Recipes from the Kitchen of Georgia O’Keeffe, and Remembering Miss O’Keeffe: Stories from Abiquiu, first published as O’Keeffe Stories, an award-winning limited edition book by the Palace Press.

The Friday, September 22nd event will be held from 6:00-7:00 P.M. at the New Mexico History Museum Auditorium at 113 Lincoln Avenue, off Historic Santa Fe Plaza. Admission is free, seating is limited. No reservations accepted.
