Young Explorers: Winter Camps for School Age Campers at the Museum of Natural History & Science

(Albuquerque, NM) – Keep your young explorers engaged and active this winter with one of the day-long Young Explorers Winter Camps at the New Mexico Museum of Natural History and Science in Albuquerque.  The camps start December 18^th and run through January 2^nd.   All camps are for children in grades Kindergarten through 5^th. 

“There is something engaging and educational offered in each one of these well-crafted Winter Camp modules,” said the Museum Executive Director Margie Marino. “This year we can offer 10 camps with topics as diverse as Leonardo da Vinci, in anticipation of the upcoming blockbuster Da Vinci—The Genius exhibition coming in February of next year, to astronomical adventures, winter garden habitat, and tracking animals.”

 The Winter Camps run from 9:00AM-4:00PM. There is a day care option also for students until 5:00PM.  Online ticket sales stop seven days before the event.  Price per camp (per day): $85. There’s a 10 percent discount for Museum Foundation members.

December 18: Scats and Tracks – become an animal sleuth and ferret out clues for the existence of critters of all kinds hidden around us.

December 19: Winter in the Wild – investigate the diversity of garden habitat during the cold days of winter.

December 20: Incredible Predators: NM and Beyond – explore the wild world of hunters and the hunted.

December 21: Hunt, Discover, Learn: How to collect! Come learn how to start a collection, build displays and explore behind the scenes.

December 22: Astronomical Adventure to the Planets – explore the solar system & discover each planet

December 26: Dino P.I. – travel through New Mexico’s Triassic, Jurassic, and cretaceous periods to seek clues on how dinosaurs lived.

December 27: Leonard da Vinci: The Art of Science – engage with the Notebooks of Leonardo da Vinci. Be an inventor, engineer, biologist, and artist.

December 28: Crazy Critters: From NM to the Galapagos – explore how animals are adapted to their environments and why they can sometimes look so absurd.

December 29: Nature’s Noises – surf sound waves and delve into sound physics as we learn how and why animals use sounds to communicate.

January 2: Ginormous Geology – become a geologist today and help us unearth the mysteries of our rocky planet!
