Museum Hosts “This is Your Brain” Dance for Adults Friday April 19th

(Albuquerque, New Mexico) – Want a great way to rejuvenate after a long work week? Unwind, relax, hit the dance floor, and learn about what dancing does to your brain at the This is your Brain on Dance happening Friday, April 19^th at the New Mexico Museum of Natural History & Science from 6-10:30 p.m.

“In addition to just being a fun-filled way to start your weekend, this dance offers a little more,” said Museum Executive Director Margie Marino. “This is your Brain on Dance event supports our traveling exhibition Brain: The Inside Story which runs through June 23. You can learn about the positive effects dance has on your brain.“

According to an October 2013 article in Psychology Today by Christopher Bergland https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/the-athletes-way/201310/why-is-dancing-so-good-your-brain, “Dancing improves brain function on a variety of levels. Two recent studies show how different types of practice allow dancers to achieve peak performance by blending cerebral and cognitive thought processes with muscle memory and ‘proprioception’ held in the cerebellum. Through regular aerobic training that incorporates some type of dance at least once a week anyone can maximize his or her brain function.”

This is a 21+ event (bring your ID). Tickets are $15 at the door ($10 for museum members and dance club members). There will be a cash bar, a DJ, a dance demonstration, TED Talks in the planetarium, a food truck, and a farewell celebration for our T-Rex, Stan.
