Holiday Greetings from the New Mexico Department of Cultural Affairs!

Veronica N. Gonzales, Cabinet Secretary, New Mexico Department of Cultural Affairs

There is no place like New Mexico during the winter holidays. It is special beyond compare—the crackling of piñon fires, freshly baked fruit pies/pastelitos and biscochitos, simmering pots of posole, the hanging of red chili ristras, and the flickering lights of thousands of luminarias/farolitos. These cherished traditions make our hearts sing with gratitude and raise our spirits in wonder.

As 2018 draws to a close, we look back on our progress and many accomplishments and look forward to a vast array of new and interesting exhibitions and programs planned for the new year.

New Mexico’s Department of Cultural Affairs is dedicated to bringing quality exhibitions and events to our eight museums and eight Historic Sites across the state. Our efforts were rewarded this year when 1.4 million people visited our facilities. In particular, more visitors came through the New Mexico Museum of Natural History & Science during the world class Da Vinci—The Genius exhibition than ever before in the museum’s 32-year history. Attendance at this well-loved museum jumped by 117,130—an increase of 59 percent over the previous year!Take advantage of this opportunity to peruse the many featured events and activities highlighted throughout this Winter/Spring Guide to New Mexico’s Museums & Historic Sites. We know you will not be disappointed and guarantee that you will have memorable experiences from anything and everything you choose to embrace.

Holiday programs are most special, from Christmas at the state’s iconic Palace of the Governors in Santa Fe to performances at the National Hispanic Cultural Center in Albuquerque to Light Among the Ruins at the revered Jemez Historic Site.

On behalf of all the dedicated professionals at the Department of Cultural Affairs, thank you for your support. We also acknowledge the State of New Mexico, our many friends groups, foundations, volunteers and of course, our sponsors who make everything we do possible.

Enjoy the richness of New Mexico’s arts and culture this season and throughout the new year.

Many Blessings to you and your families.
