Interactions with Nature

Artists responded to inspiring sunrises, vast spaces, monumental land forms, and the electrifying sunsets of the Southwest. They transformed their responses into expressive landscapes that have attracted new visitors and committed patrons. The landscape tradition of New Mexico art includes the representational as well as the abstract. Pansy Stockton made some of the most unusual images when she collaged herbal specimens collected on her walks into ecologically-provocative landscape "paintings."
