Mary Beth Edelson (American, 1935- )

Mary Beth Edelson received her B.A. in 1955 from DePauw University at Greencastle, Indiana, her home state. She earned an M.F.A. from New York University in 1959. Edelson's work spans the mediums of photography, performance art, installation, sculpture, drawing, and painting. A feminist, her work focused on a female-centered spirituality based on Jungian archetypes. In 1977, Edelson traveled to a cave in Hvar Island, Yugoslavia, where she began her ritual performances. Three years later, she returned to painting and now lives in New York.
