Michael Lebron (American, 1954- )

Michael Lebron, a New Yorker of Puerto Rican descent, is political artist motivated by his interest in structuralism and semiotics and his profound reaction to lies, injustice and hypocrisy. A student of Hans Haacke, Lebron was educated at the Art Students League and The Cooper Union. With bold imagery and succinct text, his photomontages create biting social commentary on American consumer capitalism and foreign policy, homelessness, the environment and other issues. A former commercial art director, Lebron has installed his work on the Spectacolor Board in Times Square, and in subway and train stations in New York and Washington, D.C.
