Danny Lyon (American, 1943- )
After graduating in history from the University of Chicago in 1963, Danny Lyon became a staff member and first photographer for the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee. He has published books concerning the lives of American bikeriders (The Bikeriders, 1968), Texas prisoners (Conversations with the Dead: Photographs of Prison Life, with the Letters and Drawings of Billy McCune, 1971), the Haitian revolt, and Texas migrant workers. Personally involved as a witness to the struggles he records, Lyon is a subjective reporter who expresses his views on the failure of society. He has also worked in film and is currently producing photo-essays about his family.
