Dora Maar grew up in Argentina and studied painting at l'ăcole de l'Art Dćcoratif, Académie de Passy and Académie Julien in Paris. In the early 1930s, she studied photography at l' ăcole de la Ville. She was employed in photo reportage, advertising, and fashion; her personal work was often surreal and utilized dreamlike photomontages. Picasso's mistress, she photographed his various stages of Guernica and served as his model for Weeping Women. After Picasso rejected her, she suffered a mental breakdown and withdrew from society to focus on her painting.
