Nicholas Nixon (American, 1947- )

Nicholas Nixon, a native of Detroit, received a B.A. in American Literature from the University of Michigan in 1969 and an M.F.A. from the University of New Mexico in 1974. Since then he has been an independent photographer in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and an Associate Professor at Massachusetts College of Art, Boston. Nixon is recognized for his photographic series, including "Man-Altered Landscapes" (1975) and "City Photos" (1976), views of Boston and Cambridge taken from elevated vantage points. Since then he has focused on themes of family, aging, human relationships, and mortality. He is best known for his serial portrait, The Brown Sisters.
