Sergei Osmachkin (Russian, 1961- )

Sergei Osmachkin was formally educated at the Polytechnical Institute of Samara and supplemented this training by working and photographing in the local theater and the metallurgical factory. As President of the Samara Photo Club in the mid-1980s, he reorganized the club and also worked in filmmaking. He soon began exhibiting his work throughout Russia and earned notable recognition in a juried show of Russian Art Photography in 1991. Osmachkin's unconventional still lifes juxtapose found objects with stage sets or factory environments, confronting issues of scale and challenging visual reality.
