Adrienne Salinger (American, 1956- )

Los Angeles-born Adrienne Salinger was raised in Berkeley by politically radical parents. She earned a B.A. in journalism from the University of Oregon, Eugene, and an M.F.A. from the Chicago Art Institute. Her fascination with the spaces in which people live is reflected in her books Teenagers in Their Bedrooms and Living Solo. In Living Solo, her photographs are paired with interviews of her subjects, showing the disparity between what people say about themselves and what the photograph seems to reveal. The artist thus questions the axiom that a picture tells a thousand words. Salinger currently teaches photography at the University of New Mexico, Albuquerque.
