State Museums and Historic Sites to Begin Reopening to the Public

SANTA FE — Get ready to explore New Mexico’s wonderful cultural institutions in person once again! The Department of Cultural Affairs (DCA) announced that the state’s eight museums and seven of its historic sites will begin to safely reopen to the public this week, in accordance with COVID-safe practices and public health measures to protect the well-being of patrons.
In the first week of reopening, both the Museum of International Folk Art and the Museum of Indian Arts & Culture in Santa Fe will open on Thursday, Feb. 4; the National Hispanic Cultural Center Art Museum in Albuquerque will open on Friday, Feb. 5; and the New Mexico Farm & Ranch Heritage Museum in Las Cruces will open on Monday, Feb. 8. All other facilities will open at a later date to be announced.
Once open, museums and historic sites will operate on a modified schedule. The public is encouraged to visit www.newmexicoculture.org/hours-and-admission-prices for updates on hours of operation, admission prices, and other reopening information. These details will also be made available through social media and on websites.
Enriching people’s lives is an important part of DCA’s mission, and the beauty and wonder of our state’s rich cultural heritage is best experienced in our museums and at our historic sites. When visitors return, they will be able to visit many popular exhibitions that were on view when museums and historic sites closed last year. At some museums, brand new exhibitions have been installed and will be available to the public.
The DCA is extending the expiration date of its New Mexico CulturePass, which allows one visit to each state museum and historic site while active, by 12 months for all passes activated between Jan. 1, 2020 and March 1, 2021.
Access to some areas will be limited or remain closed in compliance with public health directives, including theaters, classrooms, libraries, collections storage, and picnic/snack areas. The public will not have access to coat checks, lockers, or backpack/purse storage, nor the use of rental equipment such as headsets, portable speakers, strollers, etc., unless required for ADA accessibility. Group visits, public programs, special events, and volunteer/docent activities will continue in virtual formats only. Reduced occupancy might result in a wait to gain entry. While queuing for entry, visitors should observe social distancing. Visitors will be required to wear a mask or multilayered face covering.

Thursday, Feb. 4
Museum of International Folk Art
Tuesday through Sunday, 10 AM to 4 PM, closed Monday
$7 for New Mexico residents and $12 for non-residents. Free to NM residents on the first Sunday of each month. Children 16 and under are admitted free. Wednesday admission is free to New Mexico Seniors with ID. New Mexico foster families are admitted free.
75-person capacity under the state’s current Public Health Order. Performance spaces and theaters, libraries, classrooms, and collection areas remain closed.
Thursday, Feb. 4
Museum of Indian Arts & Culture
Tuesday through Sunday, 10 AM to 4 PM, closed Monday
Free admission in February 2021. Here, Now and Always is currently under construction and, except Diego Romero vs. the End of Art, all other exhibitions are currently under transition.

Friday, Feb. 5
National Hispanic Cultural Center Art Museum
Tuesday through Sunday, 10 AM to 4 PM, closed Monday
Admission to the NHCC Art Museum is $6 for Adults (17+), $5 for NM Residents (17+), Free for Youth (16 and under), NHCC Foundation Members, Foster Parents and Children in the Custody of Foster Parents, NM Resident Seniors (60+) on Wednesdays, Veterans and US Active Duty Military Personnel between Memorial Day and Labor Day, and for NM Residents on the first Sunday of each month.

Monday, Feb. 8
New Mexico Farm & Ranch Heritage Museum
Monday through Saturday, 10 AM to 4 PM, closed Sunday
Adults $5; Senior citizens (60 & over) $4; Children (4-17) $3; Active U.S. Military & Veterans $2; Free to children 3 and under and museum members with card. New Mexico foster families are admitted free.
75-person capacity under the state’s current Public Health Order. Performance spaces and theaters, libraries, classrooms, collection areas, playgrounds, barns, and greenhouse remain closed.
