New Mexico has many holiday traditions, and we invite visitors to experience the magic at museums, historic sites, and our partners across the state. Listed below are events for you to choose from. All are family friendly and celebrate the diverse cultures of our State.
This year, other divisions of New Mexico Department of Cultural Affairs are spreading the word about the organizations and events they support.

New Mexico State Library supports public libraries as well as delivers direct library services to rural populations, state agencies, the visually impaired and physically disabled, and students and citizens conducting research. Las Posadas on the Plaza
New Mexico History MuseumCelebrated around the world, Las Posadas recreates Mary and Joseph’s search for a place of shelter in the days leading up to the birth of Jesus. This 48th annual historic Hispanic version is presented by local volunteers and others from several northern New Mexico communities. The candle-lit procession will begin at 5:30 p.m. on the Santa Fe Plaza and conclude with carols, and good cheer. The History Museum will close at 3pm to prepare for this free public event. Arrive to the Plaza at 5:00pm for candle preparations.
