World Renowned Volcano Expert Visits New Mexico Museum of Natural History & Science
For Immediate Release: August 30, 2019 (Albuquerque, New Mexico) --The New Mexico Museum of Natural History & Science is holding a lecture on volcanic super-eruptions. The guest speaker, Dr. Stephen Self is one of the world’s experts on explosive and large volcanic eruptions. He has 40 years’ experience as a geologist specializing in the study of volcanoes. The lecture will focus on super-eruptions and their impact on society and our environment. Dr. Self will also discuss New Mexico’s own volcanic super-eruption, the Valles Caldera.
Dr. Self retired in 2017 as Senior Geologist/Volcanologist with the US-Nuclear Regulatory Commission. He is currently Adjunct Professor of the Earth and Planetary Science Department at the University of California Berkley.
Visitors can learn more about New Mexico’s geologic past and how it was impacted by volcanic activity at the lecture. The lecture will held at the New Mexico Museum of Natural History & Science on September 5th from 6:30 p.m. till 8:00 p.m. The lecture is open to the public and tickets can be purchased online at nmnaturalhistory.org.
Tickets will also be available at the Museum on the evening of the event. Proceeds from the lecture will be used to fund upgrades of the Museum’s volcano exhibit, “Land of Volcanoes.” The lecture will cost $5 for students, $7 for members and $8 for the general public.
